Looky-here! I've got a new feature on the sidebar. I always envied it about Jonathan's blog, and now I discover that this fancy-pants new Serendipity blogware allows me to post snippets of current readin', watchin' and listenin' (and any other thin' I care to share!). Very happy.

I don't really have anything to post about, but I really have to have an entry dated 06/06/06, so I'm just going to meander...

One of the features of this new Serendipity blog software is that I can add an icon to the different categories. Thus, Sally from Peanuts is my children's lit category icon. It hasn't appeared yet, but I've got a Buffy icon for future entries on my TV obsessions. The Shakespeare folio icon is attached to general arts entries. Etc. On this new "general chat" category, I have pinched a delightful icon of Mr Tumnus from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Now, I am fairly ignorant as to how to credit this thievery, but I have sent a message to the person from whose livejournal I stole the icon, and if s/he objects, I will replace it. But in anticipation that it's OK, hey, thanks, treehavn!

Continuing to muddle about, tonight I taught my second class in a new course in writing children 's books at the (also) new Sydney Writer's Centre. It's a small group—just seven students—but they are keen to learn and we are, I think and hope, having a good time getting back to basics.

Getting to the Centre (and then home) was a major challenge—it's been belting down with rain, which we badly need, drought-plagued nation we are, but alas, the rain seems determined to fall on major roadways and not in the needy catchment areas. Crossing the Harbour Bridge in the middle lane on the way home was a scary prospect, but here I am home and not exactly hosed (but damp!)...

Finally, tomorrow night I will have the pleasure of meeting with San Francisco-based children's book author-illustrator Jane Wattenberg—of which, more, later.

In the meantime, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain! My hydrangea appreciates it.
