4000 hits a day is very impressive! Thanks for highlighting my comment, and for directing some of your readers in my direction, Judith. Hopefully some of mine made it over here, too, because I thought that your post about blogging was excellent.
I do take your point about "KidLit" (and had another post about that recently). We discussed that at the conference last weekend, and I heard that feedback from several authors. However, I've been struggling with finding another term that's inclusive (children's and young adult and podcasters and so on) and yet short and snappy for us in this blogosphere. I would welcome any suggestions. Anyway, it's been a pleasure chatting with you. Thanks again! Many thanks for the link. The subject of blogging and reviewing seems to be very topical. I take it as a sign that bloggers are growing more comfortable setting their thoughts down and are now eager to hone their craft. At least, I hope that's what it means!
Thanks again. Hi Judith,
It took me ages to figure out how to read stats. Hopefully I can explain it better than the boffins can. "Hits" are the number of times a file is requested from your page. It could be HTML, an image, a Cascading Style Sheet, a javascript or a bunch of other things. So each time someone visits your site, they are seeing many of these files. So you'd get multiple hits from each visitor, depending on how much stuff your page has. A better way to measure traffic is "visits" (the yellow bars in your diagram). Visits measure individual users who have been to your page. This is further complicated by RSS, because your stats probably don't capture people viewing your page from an RSS aggregator (like I normally do, unless I come here to comment). It's all awfully complicated. Either way, you're getting great traffic! |
